Friday's Broadcast Ratings: CBS Tops Demos with NCAA Coverage

Here are the highlights of the 12 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/17/17):

CBS (4.935 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.5, #1) took home the demo crown on Friday with its coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.278 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.6, #1), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (4.902 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #2) and more "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (4.437 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3).

ABC (5.457 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #2) then was the most-watched network with new episodes from "Last Man Standing" (6.198 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.0, #5) and "Dr. Ken" (4.642 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6) plus the documentary "Truth and Lies: The Family Mason" (5.476 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4).

Next up was NBC (4.565 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.8, #3) with originals from "Grimm" (3.920 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6) and "Dateline NBC" (4.888 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T6).

Meanwhile, FOX (1.922 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.4, #4) offered up a repeat "Rosewood" (1.964 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9) and a new "Sleepy Hollow" (1.881 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.4, #T9).

And finally, the return of "The Originals" (1.057 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.3, #11) and a new "Reign" (0.786 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.2, #12) closed out the night on The CW (0.921 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.7/4; "Late Show," 0.4/2 with an encore delayed by NCAA basketball; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/2 with an encore.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.2/4 in metered-market households with an encore; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.0/4 with an encore delayed by NCAA basketball. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.4/3 in 18-49 with an encore; "Late Late Show," 0.3/2 with an encore delayed by NCAA basketball.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (3/18/16):

CBS (5.691 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.8, #1) took home top demo honors on Friday with its coverage of the "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.575 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2), "NCAA Men's Basketball Championship Update" (6.896 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.2, #1) and "NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament" (5.265 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T2).

ABC (6.014 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) then claimed the silver with its quartet of "Last Man Standing" (7.099 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5), "Dr. Ken" (5.469 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7), "Shark Tank" (6.251 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #4) and "20/20" (5.507 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T5).

Next up was NBC (4.319 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 0.9, #3) and its combination of "Caught on Camera with Nick Cannon" (3.677 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #11), "Grimm" (4.189 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 0.9, #9) and "Dateline NBC" (5.091 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.0, #T7).

Meanwhile, FOX (2.391 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.6, #4) offered up originals from "Sleepy Hollow" (2.808 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #10) and "Second Chance" (1.975 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.5, #12).

And finally, repeats of "The Vampire Diaries" (0.717 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.2, #13) and "The Originals" (0.533 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.1, #14) on The CW (0.625 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5) closed out the evening.
