|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA, THE (Netflix) - Tati Gabrielle is bound for the ever-expanding cast of the upcoming comic book-turned-drama as Prudence, "a student at the Academy of Unseen Arts and the de facto leader of a trio of witches known as the Weird Sisters. Beautiful and cunning, Prudence nurses a deep, personal, and possibly life-threatening grudge against Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka)." (Deadline.com)
DEMONS (Hulu, New!) - Juliet Lashinsky-Revene has sold a potential drama to the streaming service "inspired by true events and chronicling the hysteria known as the "Satanic Panic" of the 1980s and '90s." Lionsgate TV is behind the project, which "revolves around Marilyn Jones, the seductive "patient zero" in the frenzy surrounding satanic ritual abuse, and her husband, Bennett Lewis, a brilliant but manipulative psychiatrist." Carpool Entertainment's Karyn Usher and Lisa Zwerling are also on board to executive produce with Amanda Tudesco producing. (THR.com)
F.B.I. (CBS) - Missy Peregrym has scored a lead role on the drama, about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She'll play Maggie Bell, "an agent who, her bosses and peers agree, is marked for success. Born into a multigenerational law enforcement family in the Midwest, Maggie has developed a sophisticated skill set: high emotional IQ, intellectual rigor, bracing candor. She engages immediately, commits deeply, to the people she works with and is protecting. Maggie came to New York with conviction - and is working incredibly hard not to let a recent personal tragedy derail her new life, personally or professionally." (Deadline.com)
FIX, THE (ABC) - Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has signed onto the drama pilot, about Maya Travis (Robin Tunney), a prosecutor who lost the trial of the century and was shredded by the media in the process, only to have the murderer strike again eight years later. He'll play Steven "Sevvy" Johnson: "Charismatic and charming, Sevvy is a famous, Oscar-winning actor who was accused of murdering his wife and another woman. During the course of the spectacular trial, Sevvy always asserted his innocence. Extremely wealthy, famous, well-loved by many, Sevvy is used to getting what he wants. Narcissistic, perhaps sociopathic, Sevvy loves to be in control. Now, with the murder of his young girlfriend, Amelia, he's under suspicion again." (Deadline.com)
GET CHRISTIE LOVE (ABC) - Steven Weber, Lisseth Chavez and Dennis Oh have signed onto the Kylie Bunbury-led drama pilot, based on the 1970s cult movie/TV series. Weber is set as Steve Sidell, "Christie's law school teacher a decade ago, and now serves as her mentor and day-to-day confidant"; with Chavez as Val, "the reality TV-obsessed tech op for Christie's counter-intelligence field unit." She presumably replaces Julia Kelly, who was cast in said role last month. Oh then will play Sang: "Not only is Sang a member of Christie's counter-intelligence unit, he's Christie's lover as well. Although they appear to be a happy couple, Sang wants a real relationship while Christie is hesitant. Caring and ambitious, he wants to be the first Asian-American head of the CIA." (Deadline.com)
GONE, BABY, GONE (FOX) - Peyton List and Laysla De Oliveira are both slated to star in Dennis Lehane's book-turned-drama pilot, about private detectives Patrick Kenzie (Joseph Morgan) and Angela Gennaro (List) as they right wrongs the law can't in the working-class Boston borough of Dorchester. List will play the aforementioned Angie Gennaro. De Oliveira then will play "Patrick's girlfriend, Grace Cole, an ER doctor." (Deadline.com)
HOW MAY WE HATE YOU (ABC) - Jason Michael Snow is set to join Kat Dennings in the single-camera comedy pilot, about two inseparable guest-services associates at a high-end resort property and the co-workers and hotel guests that they're stuck with for eight to 16 hours a day. He's on board as Gabe, "the lovable funny and altruistic best friend to Ellie (Dennings), who worries that he's getting too old for the already cutthroat gay dating scene in his area. Nevertheless, he doesn't bog friends down with his problems - in fact he's always willing to help his best friend Ellie with her issues." (Deadline.com)
I FEEL BAD (NBC) - Johnny Pemberton is bound for the Sarayu Blue-led comedy pilot, about one woman's hilarious unfiltered take on the side effects of trying to have it all. He's set as Griff, "described as very sweet but nervous. Extremely intelligent in facets except socially, which often means he is very blunt but totally unaware of his own bluntness." (Variety.com)
MRS. OTIS REGRETS (FOX) - James Tupper and Paul Walter Hauser are set to star opposite Katie Holmes in the drama pilot, about FBI Special Agent Hazel Otis (Holmes), who's in the midst of investigating a domestic terrorism threat when a personal indiscretion - an affair with a prominent general - shatters her life and threatens her career at the FBI. Tupper will play the latter role, Moses Fallon, "a four star general, military hero and National Security Advisor"; with Hauser as Daniel Cohen, "a scrappy, scruffy blogger." (Deadline.com)
OUR PEOPLE (FOX) - Charles Parnell and Saidah Arrika Ekulona are both bound for the single-camera comedy pilot, about Abel (yet to be cast), a man from a bombastic African family who doesn't have a word in their native language for "privacy" and his fiancée, Jenny (Beth Behrs), from a mid-western family try to build a normal life together. Parnell will play Zohar, "Abel's always-enthusiastic father. A bit of a hardliner for Ethiopian traditions, he comes from a family of farmers and is also father to Aisha and husband to Gigi." Ekulona then is Abel's mom Gigi, "a woman who takes pride in her heritage, she and Zohar are struggling with the fact that Abel is leaving the house against tradition." (Deadline.com)
SPENCER (The CW) - Bre-Z and Greta Onieogou have been cast in the drama pilot, about Spencer Paysinger (yet to be cast), a rising high school football player from South Central L.A. who is recruited to play for Beverly Hills High. Bre-Z will play Tiana "Coop" Cooper: "Tough, funny and always loyal, Coop is Spencer's best friend, a gay woman living in a world that isn't always accepting of her. Although she struggles to fit in at Crenshaw High and Spencer keeps her safe, she supports him when he leaves the neighborhood in hopes of a better life." Onieogou then will portray Leila Faisal: "Beautiful, sweet and breezily confident, Leila is a student of Beverly Hills High who seems to have it all, but there's more lying beneath her veneer of perfection." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BAD BOYS SPIN-OFF PROJECT (NBC) - Ryan McPartlin has been tapped for the Gabrielle Union/Jessica Alba-led drama pilot, a small screen incarnation of the film franchise. He'll play Patrick McKenna, "Nancy's (Alba) husband. Formerly an Army medic, he is now a successful ER trauma doctor in Beverly Hills." (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BOBBY BOWMAN PROJECT (ABC) - Actors Johnny Sneed and Brenna D'Amico as well as director Ian Fitzgibbon have all been tapped for the single-camera comedy pilot, about "a dysfunctional family that perseveres despite their differences and finds happiness in unexpected places." Sneed will play Buzz, "a brilliant scientist with a ton of Ph.D.s, Buzz is wonderful, quirky, warm and loving with a great sense of humor about himself and life in general. Without his meds, Buzz can go off the deep end and tends to get very anxious and paranoid." D'Amico then is set as Vera, "a straight-faced troublemaker and rebel." (Deadline.com)
WELCOME TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD (CBS) - Josh Lawson and Tichina Arnold have both landed roles on the multi-camera comedy pilot, about Dave (Lawson), the nicest guy in the Midwest who moves his family into a tough neighborhood in L.A. where not everyone appreciates his extreme neighborliness. Lawson's Dave "is the most polite Midwestern guy you'll ever meet who works as a conflict resolution expert, a job that calls for a friendly nature, and excellent diplomatic skills." Arnold then will play Loretta, "Calvin's (Cedric the Entertainer) wife. She's the mother of Malcolm and Marty, and is very devoted to her faith." (Deadline.com)
