FROM THE TOP (The CW, New!) - Marc Cleary and Dan Richter have sold a new drama to the netlet about "seven ruthlessly determined dancers and their wild lives as they try to navigate the cut-throat world of Hollywood." Actress Kat Graham ("The Vampire Diaries") is executive producing the Warner Bros. Television-based project, which "was sold based on a short teaser presentation." Cleary and Richter will pen the script and serve as supervising producers. (THR.com)


HAWAIIAN DICK (NBC, New!) - Paul Lovett and David Elliot (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) are developing a small screen take on B. Clay Moore and Steven Griffin's Image Comics series, about "a stateside cop, Byrd, who is exiled to Hawaii in the early 1950s and finds himself immersed in a dark and dangerous paradise." Johnny Knoxville, David Janollari, Eric Gitter and 3 Arts Entertainment's Michael Rotenberg also serve as executive producers for the Universal Television-based David Janollari Entertainment. KIRBYLAND (ABC, New!) - Writer Josh Heald (Hot Tub Time Machine) and Norwegian director Magnus Martens have booked a new single-camera comedy at the Alphabet about "a Griswold-esque middle class family which declares its property a sovereign nation in order to dodge IRS troubles. They encounter a new normal where juggling the most everyday issues requires national and international maneuvering." ABC Studios is behind the half-hour with The Jackal Group's Gail Berman also serving as an executive producer. (Variety.com)


MAX (HBO; W: Murray Miller; D: Lena Dunham) - Cary Elwes and Mary Birdsong have both joined the cast of the comedy pilot, about an ambitious magazine writer, Maxine Woodruff (Zoe Kazan), looking for liberation in 1963. Elwes will play Ken Reece, "the editor of the magazine where Max works"; while Birdsong is set as Sue, "Max's sole fellow female writer at the magazine." (Deadline.com)


READ BOTTOM UP (ABC, New!) - Neel Shah and Sloane Crosley's novel - which "follows young New Yorkers Madeline and Elliot, who meet then embark on a relationship, much of it playing out online and under the scrutiny and well-intentioned interference of their respective best friends and confidants Emily and David" - is being developed as a comedy at the Alphabet. Said duo will pen the adaptation, which has a put pilot commitment. ABC Studios-based Fake Empire is behind the half-hour with Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Ben Karlin executive producing and Lis Rowinski as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)


UNFOLLOW (ABC, New!) - Michael Narducci ("The Originals") is spearheading a small screen take on Rob Williams and Michael Dowling's Vertigo comic book, about "what happens when a secretive billionaire makes a global announcement - via the social media platform he invented - that he is terminally ill and has decided to bestow his entire fortune to a seemingly random sample of 140 people from around the world. When one of them turns up dead, the others realize that they are all suspects - and the next potential victim." Said effort is set up at Warner Bros. Television. (THR.com)


AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Kurt Sutter has confirmed tonight's installment of FX's "The Bastard Executioner" will be its last (@sutterink); ABC comedies "The Middle," "The Goldbergs," "Black-ish" and "Fresh Off the Boat" have all been extended to 24 episodes this season while "Modern Family" is in talks to follow suit (Deadline.com); Madisen Beaty has joined the cast of NBC's "Aquarius" as Patty Krenwinkel, "a well-meaning, insecure waitress who has trouble asserting herself" (Deadline.com);

Melanie Liburd has likewise signed onto Syfy's "Dark Matter" as a yet-to-be-revealed character (Deadline.com); Afton Williamson will recur on "Blindspot" as "a member of the FBI Counter Espionage division assisting Kurt Weller and the team" (Deadline.com); "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto has inked a new overall deal with HBO, potentially opening the door for a third installment of the franchise (Deadline.com); and Albert Ruddy is looking to adapt Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" as "a miniseries of up to 15 hours" (THR.com).
