AFFIRMATIVE ACTION (FOX, New!) - Kevin Costello has sold a new drama to the network about "an all-minority federal task force led by a woman, Addison Cain, embedded in the predominantly white Houston Police Department to combat an unprecedented spike in violent crime. The unit was created as an attempt to alleviate racial tensions in the city. But what was intended to be a glorified PR campaign becomes a ragtag band of do-gooding misfits." Sony Pictures Television-based Vendetta Productions is behind the hour with the company's Sheldon Turner and Jennifer Klein also set to executive produce. (Deadline.com)
CENTRALIA (NBC, New!) - Meredith Averill ("Star-Crossed") has booked a potential drama at the Peacock "based on a real town in central Pennsylvania where an underground mine fire has been burning for over 50 years. The remaining few residents of this ghost town are determined to preserve their homes but remain unaware of the evil that is slowly making its way to the surface." Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey also serve as executive producers on the hour, which has been set up at Universal Television and has a major penalty attached. (Deadline.com)
HOT SAUCE (CBS, New!) - Gary Lundy and Nick Weiss have sold a potential comedy to the Eye about "a high-powered, no-nonsense mom who must relocate her family to small-town Louisiana to work for the most popular hot sauce company in the world, she finds herself pitted against a culture and community she doesn't want infiltrating her family." Weiss will direct the ABC Studios-based half-hour from a script he co-wrote with co-executive producer Lundy as well as executive produce alongside Kristin Newman via his Dormfire Productions banner. SUMMER PEOPLE (FOX, New!) - Adam Milch (ABC Family's "Twisted") has set up a new drama at the network about "a fictional version of Martha's Vineyard, an island known for the movie stars, politicians and Wall Street power brokers who descend there every summer, disrupting the lives of the blue collar locals." The project, which has a penalty attached, comes from Sony Pictures Television with The Firm's Jeff Kwatinetz and Josh Barry likewise executive producing. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED BRIAN RUBENSTEIN PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Brian Rubenstein ("Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life") has booked an autobiographical single-camera comedy at the network about "a loving wife, mom - and fiercely competitive women's basketball coach. When she gets her dream job at a Division I school, she has to figure out how to juggle her family, her team and everything in between." New Wave Entertainment's Matt Ochacher, Brian Volk-Weiss and Michael Pelmont are also on board as executive producers. No studio was indicated. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED SCOTT KING PROJECT (CBS, New!) - Scott King (Hulu's "Difficult People") has sold a new multi-camera comedy to the Eye about "a type-A, emotionally reserved newlywed who invites his wife's twin sister to stay with them and suddenly finds himself in a world of over-sharing, and a third wheel in his own marriage." Warner Bros. Television-based Alcide Bava Productions is behind the half-hour with the company's Johnny Galecki also serving as an executive producer. (Deadline.com)
WATCHDOG (FOX, New!) - Writer Jon Caren and director Jason Winer are set to team for a new drama at the network billed as "a new-era procedural about a team of vigilante activists who expose abuses of power - while evading the FBI." 20th Century Fox Television is behind the hour, which has a penalty attached. Winer will executive produce via his Small Dog Picture Company banner with Caren serving as a co-executive producer. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Alexandra Metz will recur on "NCIS: New Orleans" as "a young pregnant woman in 2005 distraught over the recent shooting of her husband during a hurricane" (Deadline.com); Melanie Papalia is bound for DirecTV's "You Me Her" as Nina Martone, "Izzy's (Priscilla Faia) best friend and roommate who's also an escort and a bit of a bad girl with a heart of gold" (Deadline.com); Nick Stone's novels "The King of Swords" and "Mr. Clarine" are being developed as TV series by Saville Productions (Deadline.com); Johnny Galecki is looking to turn A.J. Jacobs's book "The Year of Living Biblically" into a half-hour comedy for Warner Bros. Television (Deadline.com); and Angel Parker has been cast as attorney Shawn Chapman on "American Crime Story" (Variety.com).
