CBS to Keep "Case," "Rules"; Adds Two More Dramas

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- CBS is reportedly on track to renew its veteran drama "Cold Case" as well as perpetual midseason entry "Rules of Engagement.
In addition, drama pilots "Miami Trauma" and "U.S. Attorney" (formerly "Untitled Frank Military Project") have been approved to start making staffing offers.
As previously noted, said decision is generally viewed as a sure sign a series order is on the horizon.
Yesterday the Eye gave the same nod to its "NCIS" spin-off as well as "Three Rivers" and "The Good Wife." The news, interestingly enough, gives the network two medical shows ("Rivers" and "Trauma") and two legal series ("Attorney" and "Wife"). Earlier this month NBC gave series orders to its own pair of hospital entries: "Mercy" and "Trauma."
As for "Case" and "Rules," the fate of both series had widely been viewed as on the fence. "Case" in particular was billed as in competition with "Without a Trace" to stay alive as the network plans to clear the deck of some of its aging, mid-tier veterans.
"Case's" pickup would likely be for a full season while "Rules" would once again be tagged with a 13-episode order. The latter returned as a midseason replacement this time around following a strike-shortened second season in 2007-08.
